Católica Global School of Law
Introduction
Established in 2009, Católica Global School of Law has since become the epicenter of Universidade Católica Portuguesa's growing focus on transnational legal education. Based in Lisbon – a geographical and strategic bridge between Europe and the United States –, Católica Global School of Law was created with the fundamental purpose of preparing future generations of lawyers to practise in the context of multiple jurisdictions and diverse legal sources.
Since its foundation, Católica Global School of Law has been successful in achieving a number of goals. It has attracted remarkable groups of scholars, both resident and visiting, and cohorts of graduate students from more than 50 different nationalities, both coming from prestigious law schools from all over the world. It has launched four state of the art programmes: the LL.M. Law in a European and Global Context, the LL.M. International Business Law, the LL.M. Law in a Digital Economy, and the Global Ph.D. in Law. The quality of these programmes was consistently recognized by the Financial Times for many years, which has selected Católica Global School of Law as one of the most innovative law schools in the world.
Overall, Católica Global School of Law has managed to rapidly become a crucial center of legal teaching and research in Continental Europe, having been a founding member of the Law Schools Global League and having recently joined the European Law School Network.
Mission & Values
At Católica Global School of Law, we aim to provide an unparalleled academic experience that prepares our graduates to become leaders in the legal profession. The experience we provide is grounded on a fundamental belief: that the study of law is not only about mastering the legal rules, but also about understanding the social, political, and economic context in which the law operates.
We strive to foster a culture of excellence in legal education and research, by promoting critical thinking, innovative problem-solving, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Our faculty consists of leading legal scholars and practitioners who bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the classroom, in programmes that are designed to provide students with a global perspective about the law. We also prioritize hands-on learning through a variety of skills seminars, moot courts, and other experiential opportunities that allow our students to apply their knowledge in real-world settings.
A leading law school must also be a supportive community that values diversity, inclusion, and social responsibility. At Católica, we are committed to creating an environment that is welcoming and inclusive to students from all backgrounds, as well as to promoting a culture of service that reflects our commitment to the public interest.
Ultimately, our goal is to produce graduates who are not only outstanding lawyers, but also groundbreakers who will make a positive impact on their communities and society at large.
