Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice is a program within the Department of Social Sciences combining aspects of criminal justice, sociology, social work, psychology, history, and law. Students study with a variety of instructors with expertise in law, juvenile delinquency, counseling, corrections, probation, parole, and law enforcement. Students develop a broad range of communication skills through discussions, presentations, and writing.

The Bachelor’s Degree in Legal Studies is meant to prepare students to be successful in law school or in graduate schools leading to legal careers. The program emphasizes critical thinking, logical reasoning, and analysis of contemporary legal and social issues, reading and writing.

This program covers the criminal justice system, from crime detection through criminal appeals, using case law, statutes, public administration, philosophy, psychology, and other academic fields as the basis of study. It focuses not just on the process, but the agencies involved, including law enforcement, prosecution, defense, the court system, and corrections.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology and Justice Studies takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of crime, law and justice. Faculty members view crime, deviance and society’s response from the fields of sociology, political science, psychology and traditional criminal justice viewpoints. The curriculum provides a firm understanding of the basic institutions of the criminal justice system. Students are also exposed to criminological theory and diversity courses, which help them understand the complex relationship between the individual, society and the criminal justice system. The program stresses effective writing and analytical skills. Students are afforded the opportunity to earn credit through internship placements.
