The Graduate Diploma in Foundations of Canadian Law is designed to provide a deep understanding of Canadian law in the key areas of public and private law. The Canadian Common Law specialization offers an in-depth examination of core Canadian common law topics alongside a wide range of elective options. Internationally trained lawyers and law graduates who pursue this specialization benefit from academic and career support to assist in their transition to the Canadian legal marketplace. Core courses are specifically designed to meet the requirements of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada’s National Committee on Accreditation (NCA).

This LLM is open to anyone with a first law degree (LLB or equivalent) outside of the United States. Our Master of Laws (LLM) focuses on the U.S. legal system, with a flexible and far-reaching curriculum that prepares international students for leadership roles in the increasingly globalized marketplace.

The LLM in US Legal Studies program provides core training in United States law and comprehensive preparation for foreign attorneys and law graduates to take the state bar examination. The program also allows students to concentrate on a particular area of U.S. law. It teaches foreign-educated lawyers about the basic foundations of American law and prepares them to understand, analyze, and write about issues in American law.

Starting in January 2019, the University of Dayton School of Law began offering an entirely online option for students interested in completing their LL.M. degree in American and Transnational Law.
